Winter is cold and the temperature is low. The operation of many equipment will be affected by low temperature. Motorcycles are no exception. At this time, motorcycles may experience reduced battery storage capacity and increased oil viscosity, which is likely to cause seasonal faults in motorcycles. If the motorcycle is left for a long time because of the low temperature, it will also have a certain impact on it. So, what are the tips for the motorcycle to be able to ride normally in winter?

1. After the cold engine is started, it is fully warmed up in the idle state and cannot be warmed up at the high throttle

When a cold engine is started, the engine temperature is very low, the oil viscosity is high, and the fluidity is poor. It cannot reach the surface of the friction pairs for a short time. If the throttle is increased, the wear between the parts will be aggravated; Easily vaporize, more liquid gasoline enters the cylinder, which will dilute the lubricating oil film on the cylinder wall and aggravate wear

2. Charge the battery in time to avoid freezing and scrapping of the battery

When the battery is deficient and the voltage is only 11.7 volts, it will freeze at -7.7°C and be scrapped; when the battery is fully charged and the voltage is 12.67 volts, it will freeze at -68°C. Therefore, if the battery is fully charged, it will not freeze and be scrapped in cold areas. Therefore, in winter, especially in cold areas, the battery should be charged in time to prevent the battery from losing power and avoid the battery from freezing and scrapping.

3. In cold areas, winter motor oil should be used for motorcycles

Generally, the viscosity grade of motor oil used in motorcycles is 10W-30 or 10W-40, which is suitable for ambient temperature above -20℃. However, in some cold winter areas, the temperature is mostly below -20℃. At this time, you should replace the winter motor oil with a viscosity grade of 5W-30. It is suitable for the ambient temperature above -30℃. The low temperature resistance of the winter motor oil of 5W-30 better

4. Drive at high speed and long distance at the right time to avoid oil emulsification

Part of the water vapor produced by the combustion of the combustible mixture in the engine will escape into the crankcase. Normally, this water vapor will be discharged through the crankcase breather hose. However, in winter, the ambient temperature is low, the engine heats up slowly, and the oil in the crankcase heats up more slowly. Water vapor condenses into water and enters the oil in a low temperature environment. Too much water enters the oil, which causes the oil to emulsify after stirring. Therefore, fully preheating before driving and driving at a high speed and long distance in a timely manner (driving at a speed of 50-60km/h for more than 20 minutes) will not cause oil emulsification. Even if emulsification occurs, the water in the oil will evaporate, and it will be softened by ventilation. The tube is discharged from the crankcase, thereby eliminating emulsification. In addition, check the color of the engine oil frequently, and change the engine oil immediately if it turns white.

5. In cold areas, store motorcycles in heated rooms as much as possible

There is a certain linear relationship between temperature and battery capacity. The lower the temperature, the more likely the battery will lose power. At this time, the number of normal electric starts of the motorcycle will decrease accordingly, or even fail to start. Therefore, motorcycles in cold winter areas should be placed in a place with a higher temperature, such as a heated room

6. Properly thicken the mixture

The ambient temperature is low, gasoline is not easy to vaporize, and the air density is also increased, which is likely to cause the mixture to become leaner, leading to difficulty in starting, easy to stall after starting, and poor acceleration performance. In order to avoid the occurrence of the above faults, professional maintenance personnel should be asked to adjust the position of the carburetor mixing ratio screw and the main oil needle to properly enrich the mixture.

7. Driving on icy and snowy roads, appropriately lower the tire pressure

If the road is icy or covered with snow, the motorcycle will easily slip and lose control. If you are driving under such road conditions, you can properly deflate the tires, lower the tire pressure, increase the tire's grip area, and reduce slippage.

8. Clean up carbon deposits in time

The weather is cold, the riding speed is generally low, and the mileage is short. When driving at low speed for a long time, the mixture cannot be completely burned, and carbon deposits are easily generated in spark plugs, valves and pistons, which may affect riding and even cause the motorcycle to fail to start. Therefore, the carbon deposits in the above parts should be cleaned up in time during use and maintenance
